Ensemble Gamut!, led by Aino Peltomaa, has quickly emerged as one of Finland's most interesting ensembles that move fluidly between genres. The ensemble has created its unique sound by combining elements of medieval music, Finnish folk songs, improvisation, original compositions and electronic soundscapes.
Ensemble Gamut!'s second album "RE", released in December 2022 by Eclipse Music, was nominated for an Emma Award and has attracted widespread interest also outside Finland in classical, early music and progressive music circles. The debut album "UT", released in 2020, received the Finnish Early Music Association's "Early Music Act of the Year 2020" award. The album was also nominated for YLE's Album of the Year 2021 and was among the best prog albums of the year chosen by The Progressive Aspect.
Ensemble Gamut! has performed extensively in clubs, museums, medieval churches and concert halls in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Italy and Poland.
The band's name refers to the medieval music-theoretical system "Gamut" (Guido of Arezzo). Gamut is also a set of colour tones and "kamut" refers to Finnish folk music and pals (kamut in Finnish).
