For over 20 years Pascal Schumacher has played in many different compositions and performed with many exciting musicians such as Francesco Tristano, Bachar Mar-Khalifé, Jef Neve, Kenny Barron and Magic Malik. His current musical resume includes leading a jazz quartet and writing music for theater and film.
In 2018 Pascal was invited to play at Jazz & The City Festival In Salzburg and this experience lead him to develop his own solo material. His debut album SOL captures Schumacher’s newfound passion for solitude in all its magnetism all the while remaining true to the main characteristic of his relationship with the vibraphone; intimacy. SOL was released in June 2020 and it was followed in 2022 by LUNA, which captures a more meticulous side to the musician’s work which involved once again composing for other players, i.e. the Belgium post-classical ensemble Echo Collective.
Pascal Schumacher has a comprehensive background in the study of classical percussion, jazz vibraphone and musicology. He holds a Master’s Degree in musicology (Marc Bloch University) and another in music with a focus on jazz vibraphone (Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague). He has won many awards, such as the Belgian Django d’Or (2005), Music:LX (2012), ECHO Jazz (2012) and JTI Trier Jazz (2014). He was also selected for the Rising Stars program organized by the European Concert Hall Organization and he appeared as soloist in ECHO Klassik 2017 awarded project Überbach.
Today Pascal is a Yamaha Artist and a Professor for Jazz and Classical Percussion at the Conservatoire de Musique de Luxembourg. He is also the Artistic Director of the innovative 'Reset' Music Festival at Abbaye Neimenster and an Ambassador for SOS Children's Villages International - Luxembourg.
