Masa Orpana

From blues to jazz, rock, and improvised music.

Masa Orpana has performed as a solo artist at numerous festivals, clubs, and renowned concert venues around the world. Originally from Kangasala, Orpana is considered one of Finland's most talented tenor saxophonists and versatile woodwind players.

Orpana has collaborated with numerous seasoned artists, including Diz Watson, Tony Uter, Junior Watson, Jo’ Buddy, and Ismo Haavisto. One of Orpana's current bands is called Masa Orpana Honk, and among his other productions are Anssi Tikanmäki Orchestra and Jazzmuseo (Jazzmuseum).

Saxophonist Masa Orpana will celebrate 30 years as a professional artist in 2024. To mark the anniversary, an All Stars ensemble will be formed around Masa, which will be actively touring throughout the year. The Masa Orpana All Stars ensemble will perform Orpana's compositions from different decades. The music includes jazz with a Finnish twist as well as blues-influenced roots music. The new line-up includes bassist Jukka Haavisto, drummer Tomi Hyttinen, guitarist Jukka-Pekka Berg and pianist Saku Järvinen.

Masa has released five albums: "Honky Tonk Man" (Alba Records 2005), "Brothers" (Alba 2008), "Travelin’ Home" (Alba 2014), "Honk" (Alba 2018), and "The Chase!" (Alba 2023). In addition to his solo career, Masa Orpana is actively working as a studio and theatre musician.
